- Help! I just purchased the Zoom Fax Modem the new one with V.42bis/.32bis
- 14.4 etc... external pc hookup. A friend of mine bought the same thing.
- (I bought it on his recommendation).
- The Problem: We can't get connected at 14400 and stay connected, using
- any of the software, MTEZ came with it, that we have tried.
- In fact we can't even get a good connection using 9600 baud unless we
- use his other modem (a 9600 hayes clone) and talk through Crosstalk
- for windows. Most of the time, even with this setup we'll only get
- 4800, it's rare to get 9600 even this way.
- We have been trying all different combinations within the MTEZ software
- and nothing seems to work, In fact we have never connected with the
- two identical modems, and both using MTEZ. He lives about 10 miles away
- in a rural area (for the D.C. area that is) and Hasn't had any trouble
- connecting with other 14.4 machines. (I have yet to try).
- It has been damp (very) around here lately and I expect that may have
- something to do with the quality of transmission lines around here,
- also I'm located in a very close proximity to High Power Lines (not
- directly overhead but close) Can that affect the signal that bad (even
- to degrade it below 9600 capability)?
- Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated, frankly I'm pulling
- my hair out over this. Mind you I'm pretty new to Modem communications,
- but have been recently getting to know alot more.
-
- Are there any good software packages that support this modem in the
- Windows environment? (like Crosstalk but with terminal input capabilities).
-
- Please send all answers to me at lewis@oasys.dt.navy.mil in addition
- to posting. I don't always have the time to sort through all of the
- posts before they're deleted.
-
- Thank's in advance,
-
- Bill
