- At the risk that several people will tell me this is the wrong group
- to talk about this, I have a question:
-
- My father recently acquired an original IBM Personal Computer. The price
- was right (free). I haven't seen it yet, but I believe it has:
- 384 K
- 2: 5 1/4" disk drives
- 30 Meg Hard Drive
-
- Now, what I want to do is upgrade him to 640K and replace one of the
- 260K drives with a 720K drive.
-
- Are parts like this still available for the old Blue PC's? Do they use the
- "standard" stuff or the odd-ball PS/2 parts?
-
- How much do these things cost? I think memory should cost < $20, but
- what speed do we need, 80ns, 100ns, 120ns? It may be possible that we
- can't acquire memory the same speed as the original memory. If they are
- different, will there be some conflict? i.e., mixing 80ns and 120ns?
-
- Is the upgrade to a 720K drive as simple as removing the old drive and
- inserting a new one, or will I have to buy a different board?
-
- Is an 8087 coprocessor worth getting? What programs can it speed up?
- (For those of us used to AT class machines, 1/3 the speed is SLOW!)
-
- I am guessing that these are FAQ's but I don't read this group, I just need
- somewhere to turn for answers. Thanks for the help with the True Blue PC,
- please mail the answers to me.
