- Call Tech service...wait ~ 30 min
- I explain to the tech rep that:
- I currently have an IBM Network Adapter II Token Ring card that I took
- out of another computer where it functioned fine, and it does not work
- properly in my gateway. It only works if internal cache is disabled.
- I'd like to know which brand and make of token ring adapter cards would
- work in my machine.
-
- Tech Rep: "You say you're having a problem with your video card?"
- Me: "No, do you know what token ring is...?"
- Rep: "Yes"
- Me: I simplify and ask for Token Ring cards that will work
- Rep: "Is this novell?"
- Me: "The token ring network is IBM, I'm running PC/TCP software"
- Rep: "please hold"
-
- wait=15 min
-
- Rep: "They say an ethernet card should work just fine"
- Me: "ummm.. yeah, that might very well be true, but I'm interested in
- hooking up to token ring."
- Rep: "uhh... hold on"
-
- wait = 10 min
-
- Rep: "Any token ring card should work"
- Me: "I just told you that I have an IBM network adpater II, and it DOESN'T"
- Rep: "hold on"
-
- wait =10min
-
- Rep: "you need to get the card tested"
- Me: "(!) I said that it worked in another machine, I said that it works
- in the Gateway when the internal cache is disabled, and I said it
- doesn't work when the computer is running full out!"
- Rep: "well, that's what the network guy said"
- Me: "can *I* speak to the network guy"
- Rep "ok, hold on"
-
- *ring* *ring* *ring* *ring* *ring*
-
- Woman:"Hello, Gateway customer service"
- Me:"I was just speaking to tech service, and he was going to transfer me
- to their network guy, but I ended up here instead"
- Woman:"I'm sorry I can't help you, would you like to hold for technical
- service?"
- Me:"ok"
-
- wait = 20 min
-
- 2nd woman:"can I have one of our representatives call you, or would you
- like to continue holding?"
- Me: I explain the whole brutal situation from the beginning
- 2nd woman:"ok, I'll put you right through to a representative"
-
- *ring* *ring*, etc.
-
- recording: you have reachine gateway technical service, please hold....
-
- Me: hang up
-
- the moral of the story:
- WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T BUY A GATEWAY!!!!!!!!
