- I've got a 3 year old clone (386SX, AMI BIOS, 2MB RAM, DOS 3.3) at home with
- a 40 MB hard drive. Last week I added an Infotel 14.4k internal modem and
- the Quick Link II software that came with it. (The only other other
- change I've made lately is to install F-Prot 2.06a anti-virus software.)
- Suddenly, I'm getting sporadic "Disk Boot Failure" errors rebooting from
- my hard drive. What really has me concerned is that they appear to be
- increasing in frequency - when they started, they seemed to happen exactly
- every other boot, but this morning I had three failures in a row before I
- was able to boot successfully.
-
- Is this some weird incompatibility problem, or does it mean that my hard
- disk just happened to start dying at about the same time I installed the
- modem? Is there anything to be done significantly cheaper than buying a
- new hard drive? All ideas/suggestions/information welcome!
