- I like questions on the network, especially since my mail isn't quite set
- up yet.
-
- For any one operation, with the exception of mode set, the XGA-2 will be
- faster. That said, there are times when the setup time for the emulation
- can be worse. The only benchmark I'm aware of for XGA-2 in VGA mode is
- the 3DBENCH benchmark (a VGA graphics mode benchmark), for which the
- numbers are:
-
- XGA-2: 10.1 (Higher is better)
- PS/2 VGA: 5.9
-
- These numbers are, of course, unofficial and just the results of running
- on one particular machine. I don't do testing for a living, just chip
- design :-) These numbers were from a very slow, ancient machine on my
- desk -- your results would no doubt be better.
-
- I am told, however, that for certain text opertions that XGA-2 is not
- very much better (and possibly worse) than VGA. I can't say for certain
- what operations, though, since my sources didn't say. Still, my overall
- impression is that XGA-2 is faster than VGA even in VGA mode.
