  12.     I have just gotten a PS/1 very cheaply and I wanted
  13. to ask a few questions about expandability.  The model I have
  14. is a 386sx with 2 mb of memory, a 40 meg HD, and a color VGA
  15. monitor.  It comes in an extremely small case and has no
  16. slots.  (I'm giving this information because I don't know the
  17. exact model right now.)
  18.  
  19.    1. What kind of hard drive does this machine have?  (SCSI,
  20.       IDE, etc.)  Any specific information would be
  21.       appreciated.  I want to install one of the free UN*Xes
  22.       on the hard drive, but (at least 386BSD and Coherent)
  23.       can't identify that I even have a hard drive.  Also, if
  24.       I wanted to expand to the next size up, (129 meg I
  25.       think) where could this be acquired?  Do I need to get
  26.       that directly from IBM?

  28.    2. I would like to expand the memory from 2 to 4 or 6
  29.       megs.  Are there SIMM slots on the motherboard that I
  30.       am missing, or is there an adapter board?  If so,
  31.       where would one get that?

  33.    3. In the User's Manual, there is a picture of some sort
  34.       of expansion chassis that gives 2 slots in which to
  35.       expand (possibly a hard card).  Where could I get one
  36.       of these?

  38.     This machine seems to be somewhat old (maybe ~2
  39. years) and no one around here seems to know anything about
  40. it.  So, without signing up for Promenade or Prodigy, I was
  41. hoping someone here on the net would know something about
  42. it.  I suppose I could also call IBM directly.  I could not
  43. find a number in the sparse manual set that came with the
  44. computer.  Does anyone know a number at IBM that I could
  45. call?
  46.     Otherwise I am very satisfied with the computer.
  47. For the price, it's a great DOS computer.  I just want to
  48. use UN*X too.  Thanks for any help.
