- I was wondering if anyone could point me to some good sources
- of information on building computers. I am going to try to build
- a partial computer that will consist of a turbo 8088, power supply,
- floppy controller, one 3.5" floppy drive, and an RS-422 interface.
- I've never worked with building computers before, so if anyone
- can give me some pointers, or some sources of parts or info I'd
- appreciate it. The sysytem is going to be an external slave drive
- unit for a Laird 1450 Character Generator. I'm getting the driver
- software to run on it, and then I need to build the hardware.
-
- I was also curious if nayone would have some suggestions
- as to weather I'd be better off using a standard computer case
- and making it rackmountable or if I'd be better off putting all of
- the components in a rackmount case. I was wondering if with a rackmount
- case I might run into interference problems with the other video sources
- in the rack. (S-VHS deck, switcher)
-
- I was also curious if anyone knows of a product that converts
- an RS-232 port into an RS-422, or if anyone knows of a good source
- of RS-422 cards, and how much they cost. I've also been told by
- one source that you can trick a device into thinking that it
- sees an RS-422 by simply altering the pinouts on an RS-232 with
- some resistors and diodes. Is this possible?
-
- PLEASE mail anyreplies since I cannot retrieve Usenet
- posts and it would be handy to have a hardcopy of any replies.
- Thanks in advance!!!
