- Summary: Does a Fast SCSI-2 controler cope with a chain with both fast and non-fast discs?
- Keywords: SCSI-2, fast, differential, disc
-
- Colleagues,
-
- In my HP 9000/750 I have an HP 25525A EISA SCSI-2 (Differential) host
- adapter which uses the NCR 53C700 (or is it 'C710?) controler chip.
- I'd like to connect to it three WREN 9s and a single WREN 7 (all with
- differential interfaces). The WREN 9s support FAST SCSI-2, but the
- WREN 7 is SCSI-2 only.
-
- Will the presence of the non-FAST SCSI-2 drive stop the host adapter
- and the WREN 9s from negotiating FAST transfers, ie am I limited to
- the speed of the slowest device on the chain, or is the transfer speed
- negotiated separately for each device?
-
- It's been a long and complicated day, but my intuition is saying
- "She'll be right, mate!" However, both my brain and my boss are saying
- "make absolutely sure before you make a recommendation..."
-
- So if there's anyone who could help me, I'd be very grateful!
