  22. Personal opinion of course (not any official word form HP):

  24. All depends on what your needs are.
  25.  
  26. Do you need integrated graphics? If so forget WordPerfect, since the 
  27. UNIX version doesn't do graphics.

  29. Do you need compatibility with PC users and don't need graphics?
  30. If so Wordperfect might be great fit.

  32. Do you need WYSIWYG? If so I would look at Framemaker if you have 700
  33. series platform. Remember of course that WYSIWYG editors will tend to
  34. not be compatible with ASCII text.

  36. Are you sensitive to white backgrounds? If so forget Island since it
  37. has hard-coded blinding-white background.

  39. I would start your search by deciding exactly what you want the editor to
  40. do.
  41.   - graphics?      
  42.   - hot-links?
  43.   - hypertext?
  44.   - to generate hard copy documents or on-line?
  45.   - network license?
  46.   - how much are you willing to pay?
  47.   - links are needed from/to what other tools?
  48.   - which HP platform are you using?
  49.   - X-only or do you need ascii terminal capability?
  50.   - storage format- is proprietary OK or do you need a standard?
  51.   - color or B/W documents?
  52.   - edit graphics in the editor or just import?
  53.   - are you generating fancy slides, books, manuals, advertising
  54.     art, just simple text?

  56. once you figure out some of these basics, then you will find a choice fairly
  57. easy. As with any tool, be sure to get demo version and try it out before
  58. you buy.

  61. with here, since I am also in the same situation of looking for best
