- Hello,
-
- I have the following problem. By accident I started writing (with tar) at
- the beginning of a DAt tape which already had several tar archives on it.
- Is there any way of getting the tape positioned after the new end of tape
- mark, so that I can access the data that is still on there somewhere?
-
- Tar, mt, and dd will not let you do this. I have also tried to break off
- a tar process to stop an end of tape being written, but this doesn't work
- either: the error handling will always place two tapemarks at the end of
- the tar archive.
-
- Are there any programs to position the tape a specified position or will
- that not help me?
-
- Please mail me any suggestions.

- Technical details: HP 9000/720, HP-UX8.05,
- DAT: HP6400 1300S (devices /dev/rmt/0m[n])
- (on the back it says model: C1512A)
-
- P.S. I have also access to a DAT unit in a DEC outfit:
- DEC3100, Ultrix4.2
