I have this question, hopefully someone will respond to this. We have about
20 HP9000/8xx boxes in house, I am currently using HP Omniback backup product
to back them up across the network. Due to the amount of data, I am no longer
be able to back them all up in a given time window, therefore, I am planning to
do standalone backup (since we have 1.3GB DAT drive for every single system).
I used to purchased 4 licences for Omniback Admin. node, and the rest as Omniback client nodes. I was recently informed by my sell rep. that I have to
pay full price (~ $5000) for any nodes running Omniback, either it's an admin. node or client node. This will cost me ~ $80,000 if I use HP Omniback for standalone backup. :-(. The reason we used Omniback because it allowed us to perform network backup, and the main reason was SPEED; it allowed us to backup multiple file systems simultaneously to a single backup peripheral.
Now the question is IS FBACKUP, TAR, CPIO, ETC. AN OPTION IN MY CASE, IF IT IS, WHAT BACKUP SPEED WILL I GET OUT OF EACH OF THEM?. Thank you very much in advance, since I am using a friend account in order to post this, please respond either to the newsgroup or bnguyen@jeep.atk.com.
