- I just added a 2GB disk (SCSI ID 0) as a temporary swap disk on one of
- our computers. It had ~160MB swap on the boot disk started to run out
- of swap space.
-
- I edited /etc/checklist and used "swapon -a".
-
- The computer is a 720 cluster server with 2 710 cluster nodes.
- It is running HP-UX 8.07
-
- What really puzzles me is that "hold" swap space increased to ~1500MB
- immeadiatly after adding the disk.
-
- Could anyone explain to me what is happening?
-
- This is what the manual page says about hold:
- | hold Swap space on hold. This is space not allocated
- | on any specific device or file system, but
- | nonetheless held for future use ``on demand'' by
- | existing processes. It cannot be reallocated
- | until those processes terminate.
-
- This is what swapinfo gave me
- | volt.volt SUPER$ swapinfo -mt
- | Mb Mb Mb PCT START/ Mb
- | TYPE AVAIL USED FREE USED LIMIT RESERVE PRI NAME
- | dev 166 76 90 46% - - 0 /dev/root
- | dev 1910 1570 340 82% - - 0 /dev/dsk/0s0
- | hold 0 -1509 1509
- | tot 2076 137 1939 7% - 0 -
-
- The "tot" line seems to be correct. Why is there such a big difference
- between the "Mb used" shown in the "dev" and "tot" lines???
