- There are a number of reasons. Lower speed support chips is one. But, just
- as real is power and heat for the 21064. I think in the DEC 3000 Model 500 it
- is running @23-25W of power. Which requires quite a bit of cooling. That is a
- bit of a hurdle in compact desktop boxes (one which most vendors are having to
- think about now...).

- Cost is another factor. By using slower speed chips in entry level products
- we can offer products at lower costs.
