- Just to be anal retentive (sorry, too much computer architecture and
- performance analysis this semester...)
-
- The A1200 could be *up to* twice as fast due to a true 32-bit data bus
- assuming that the bus was a bottleneck in the system (likely for some
- applications, unlikely for others). This also assumes that everything
- else between the two systems are identical, which, of course, they are
- not. About the only conclusion that anyone can draw with any certainty
- is that the A1200 might be faster in certain applications, while the
- Falcon might be faster in others. (This is about as precise as "Well,
- it might get colder when winter comes around then it might warm up
- again when we get to spring" :-) ) There is also no way to "know" for
- sure until both machines are out.
-
- In any case, who really cares which one is "faster" (meaningless term
- without a context) or "better" (another meaningless term when without
- a context)? Most of the Atari fanatics on the net I have been in
- contact with wouldn't think of buying an Amiga and most of the Amiga
- fanatics on the net I have been in contact with wouldn't think of
- buying an Atari. (This is not to say there are no reasonable Atari
- owners or reasonable Amiga owners. Of course, there are. However, you
- can only do so much analysis when you are missing most of the facts.)
-
- Frankly, I hope both computer companies do excellently and maybe
- someday we won't have such a PC clone dominated industry. (I just say
- this because I don't like working on the PC platform.) I know, dream on...
