- I keep getting requests for info on the 21 meg floptical I bought. I cannot
- take the time to answer reach netter individually so here goes - again.
-
- First, a net wide apology to everyone for writing LYNX instead of LINK in
- my original posting. Just found out that I made the error. Maybe that's
- because I own a LYNX and the LINK.
-
- Second, the floptical I have, purchased at dealer pricing from Pacific
- Software in California (I am a dealer) is a SCSI device that plugs into
- any computer with a SCSI port (like the Atari TT). If you have an ST or
- an STE with a DMA, not a SCSI port, you have to by the LINK adaptor from
- ICD - this little device converts your DMA port (the hard disk port) into
- a SCSI port. If you already have an external drive on your ST/STE, just
- plug the LINK adaptor into the OUT port on the hard disk (assuming it
- has an IN/OUT like my FA.ST drive does) and then plug the floptical into
- the LINK.
-
- You will need to run either the ICD version 6 boot program or an equivalent
- code that allows you to recognize a remmovable disk on your system.
-
- The floptical is treated as a removable 21 meg hard disk. Let's say
- that you have a hard disk with partitions C,D and E and then you plug in
- the floptical an reboot. Drive F will be the floptical and you'll need to
- install a disk icon for F. Hard disk utilities can format the floptical,
- as far as I can tell, currently there is no provision to format 720K
- or 1.44 meg floppies on the floptical although right now you can read/
- write these disks of they are already formatted.
-
- Last, sorry for all the typos. I am on my way home and I have typed this
- note at a w.p.m. rate far above what I should have.
