  14. I have a real problem. My Vulcan has gone haywire. (yeah, I know. What
  15. else is new.) At least I think that it is my Vulcan. About once a month,
  16. and now more and more frequently, my /system partition on my Vulcan20
  17. has been totaly changing the names of files in the /system/system folder.
  18. (Actually, this is just when I notice it actually...) And it all happens
  19. at once too... i.e. Everything will be fine, but I'll park heads using the
  20. AE utility, turn off the 'puter, come back in 4 hours, turn it on and I
  21. get the following:

  49. of course the filetypes of folders are screwed up because I don't have
  50. mousetext here, but look at the other types, and how their names are
  51. mutated. Yes, in the finder I do see Start.GS.N and Sxstel.Retup. I'm
  52. beginning to think Astro lives in my Vulcan. (I booted off of 3.5 to
  53. get this, and no, it cannot find the Start.GS.OS file.)

  55. I have no way of fixing this. The finder tells me there is nothing wrong
  56. with the disk on a verify. A validate tells me all the files are corrupt.
  57. Trying to change them crashes the 'puter. Yes, I am using Sys6 from
  58. ftp.apple.com, and I am using the correct HFS and ProDos drivers. If I so
  59. much as try to write a filetype to an affected file, I crash. My sol'n
  60. in the past has been to reformat the drive, and start again. That works,
  61. for about a month. I thought it was Phantasm that was screwing me, so I
  62. took it out. Nope! Ugh! I haven't blanked the drive yet because I really
  63. want to find out what the heck is wrong. I need my GS for term papers and
  64. exams coming up, and this is frustrating! (HELP!)
