  18. Well, having just recently helped some friends figure out the same on their
  19. Mac, .hqx represents BINHEX format, which appears to be a file shell similar
  20. to MacBinary.  It is equivalent to Binary II in the apple II world being used
  21. on Shrinkit files for the BXY format.  You'll notice that most of the .hqx 
  22. files (at least the ones I've seen) have names like xxx.sit.hqx, so they're 
  23. still packed by an archive utility like Stuffit or Compactor.  Binhex may
  24. actually be an ASCII utility like Binscii for all I know.  I've never 
  25. attempted looking at a file that I FTPed without Binhex mode on.
