  13. In order to clarify some things I said earlier, a couple of which  were
  14. incorrect:
  15.  
  16. (1) I got the wrong name from somewhere; Douglas Voorhies is one the 
  17. engineers on the DN10000, not Paul Bemis who is apparently a "marketing"
  18. person.
  19.  
  20. (2) PA-RISC existed before the merger; just not in the same form.  To
  21. quote from "Workstation" magazine:
  22.  
  23.     All three models use a new generation of the PA-RISC
  24.      architecture that adds a small number of critical
  25.     compound, or superscalar, instructions found in
  26.     Apollo's PRISM architecture to the basic instruction
  27.     set of HP 9000 Series 800.

  29. Other relevant quotes from an earlier issue of the same rag, attributed
  30. to Bob Weinberger (yet another marketing person):

  32.     The Apollo Systems Division here in Chelmsford has been
  33.     given strategic ownership for HP's workstation RISC program.
  34.  
  35.     HP previously has not had a specific workstation RISC program.
  36.     HP's existing RISC workstations were all introduced as multi-
  37.     user systems first and the retrofitted to take advantage of
  38.     Motorola workstation graphics products developed in 
  39.     Fort Collins.

  41. So, my point is the 7xx series has benefitted greatly from once Apollo
  42. technical people, especially those involved in the PRISM architecture,
  43. whatever their names are.  If only it came with DomainOS and a true ATR
  44. board...
