- Closing the serial.device drops DTR; its done so for a long time;
- (possibly forever :-) ) and is what I do when I need DTR low.
- Since I seldom need to send data through a modem that is offline,
- closing the device is no hardship. When I want to raise DTR, I

- I can't really imagine a good reason for not using th Open/Close method,
- but I assume the author of Welmat did. That's basically the problem;
- someone can always think of a reason (valid or not) to hit the hardware.
