  20. I've gotten this question several times in mail, so there seems to be
  21. a lot of people interested.  Here's the scoop:

  23. The new patch will be called 6.1.  We're going to a shared-library
  24. style numbering scheme, so following releases would logically be
  25. called 6.2, 6.3...6.9, 6.10, 6.11 and so forth.  (We reserve the
  26. right to skip numbers for internal versions, but any future
  27. publically released version will have an increasing number
  28. after the decimal.)
  29.  
  30. The patch will be freely redistributable.  We will upload it to
  31. BIX, CompuServe, Portal, Genie and make it available for 
  32. anonymous FTP (if anyone can tell me the FTP site or sites to
  33. use, please do so.)  From there, I anticipate that it will be
  34. rapidly disseminated via the normal freely redistributable 
  35. software channels.  Since the patch is in the form of binary
  36. differences, the original 6.0 disks will be required; therefore,
  37. it won't do anybody any good if they don't already have 6.0.
  38. This is why it is possible for us to make it freely redistributable.

  40. If a user cannot get the patch from a friend, from their local
  41. BBS, or via anonymous FTP, then they can contact technical support
  42. and we will mail them a diskette.  We plan on sending postcards
  43. to all registered customers letting them know the patch is available
  44. a few weeks after it is posted, in case the user does not follow
  45. any of the major newsgroups or conferences.

  47. The patch is currently still in beta test.  If all goes well, it
  48. will be available next week.  At this point, we welcome your bug
  49. reports and will try to help you with them, but we are not fixing
  50. any additional bugs in 6.1.
  51.  
  52. All reported CXERRs, cases of bad code, and crashes are fixed.
  53. Any bug that impairs the use of a tool and was reported more than
  54. a week ago is fixed.  A detailed list of the fixed bugs is 
  55. provided in the patch, both in AmigaGuide format and as a plain
  56. text file.
