- I've gotten this question several times in mail, so there seems to be
- a lot of people interested. Here's the scoop:
-
- The new patch will be called 6.1. We're going to a shared-library
- style numbering scheme, so following releases would logically be
- called 6.2, 6.3...6.9, 6.10, 6.11 and so forth. (We reserve the
- right to skip numbers for internal versions, but any future
- publically released version will have an increasing number
- after the decimal.)
-
- The patch will be freely redistributable. We will upload it to
- BIX, CompuServe, Portal, Genie and make it available for
- anonymous FTP (if anyone can tell me the FTP site or sites to
- use, please do so.) From there, I anticipate that it will be
- rapidly disseminated via the normal freely redistributable
- software channels. Since the patch is in the form of binary
- differences, the original 6.0 disks will be required; therefore,
- it won't do anybody any good if they don't already have 6.0.
- This is why it is possible for us to make it freely redistributable.
-
- If a user cannot get the patch from a friend, from their local
- BBS, or via anonymous FTP, then they can contact technical support
- and we will mail them a diskette. We plan on sending postcards
- to all registered customers letting them know the patch is available
- a few weeks after it is posted, in case the user does not follow
- any of the major newsgroups or conferences.
-
- The patch is currently still in beta test. If all goes well, it
- will be available next week. At this point, we welcome your bug
- reports and will try to help you with them, but we are not fixing
- any additional bugs in 6.1.
-
- All reported CXERRs, cases of bad code, and crashes are fixed.
- Any bug that impairs the use of a tool and was reported more than
- a week ago is fixed. A detailed list of the fixed bugs is
- provided in the patch, both in AmigaGuide format and as a plain
- text file.
