-
- DEMAND is there - so where is the SUPPLY?
-
- I have a shameful secret - I own an IBM PC. It has a HD drive. When it comes
- to moving data around, I use HD disks. As they hold twice as much data, I only
- need half as many disks.
-
- Although DD disks are cheaper, I need twice as many, so in the long term, my Amiga
- costs me more than my IBM PC.
-
- Also, a HD drive as standard would eventually mean less disk swapping when using
- programs with the Amiga. And as software is to a large degree protected, then
- the reduced swapping would save on wear and tear.
-
- I admit it would take a while for the HD standard to catch on. As I have said,
- it is a move Commodore will probably eventually do anyway. I mean, if you look
- at any Amiga with WB 2.04 upwards, they support HD drives anyway (attempting to
- format a HD disk on a HD drive on one of these Amigas gives you a HD format option
- - I believe this to be true, though I may be misinformed).
-
- The beef sandwich.
