- Hello everybody,
-
- Last saturday I went to the SIMO, a large exhibition of office equipment held
- here in Madrid. Of course, the first thing I did was to find the Commodore's
- stand. It was pathetic. They had three A500s running games, a couple of A600s
- and A3000s, two CDTV units sitting in a dark corner, one A2000 running a morph
- demo and one, only one, BROKEN A4000. It seems that the hard disk didn't survive
- the first day of the show.
-
- Anyway, what it really drew my attention was the A4000 brochure. The possible
- configurations listed there were:
-
- * A4000-40/40: 40M Hard Disk. Desktop
- * A4000-40/120: 120M Hard Disk. Desktop
- * A4000-40/213: 213M Hard Disk. Tower
-
- Is this correct? There exist a A4000 tower or is it a mistake of Commodore
- Spain? (I wouldn't be surprised).
-
- I was also surprised by the A4000 price: only 379900 ptas ($3332) w/o monitor. I
- still remember when the A3000 was announced 2 years ago; the cheapest costed
- around $6000.
-
- Apart from that, the only interesting thing was the Vortex 486SLC bridgeboard.
- It was installed on a A3000 with a ET4000 VGA board and a second monitor. They
- were installing Windows and it seemed to work. I asked the guy about the
- problems I have with the PC expansion boards in my Vortex 386SX BB and he
- confirmed that this BB have some problems with them but this is solved in the
- new 486SLC.
-
- Best regards,
- Vicente Cruz
