  24. Yes, but it affects the developers.  $5-$20 of software cost is the packaging,
  25. distribution disks, manuals (largest part), shipping, etcetera.  The rest is
  26. not profit.  Still more cost comes from paying the people who design, code,
  27. test, recode, and maintain the code.  There's not a lot of room left for profit
  28. before shopowners get to mark it up so *they* can make some money on it.  What
  29. you're paying for when you buy software is for the company to continue
  30. developing software for your platform.  When you stop supporting them by free-
  31. loading off their hard work, you're deciding you don't care if anyone writes
  32. anything more than PD software for your platform, and good as Amiga freeware and
  33. PD are, there's no Professional Calc, PageStream, ADPro, or SAS/C there, just to
  34. name a few.  There's no Armour-geddon, 4d-boxing, Lemmings, or James Pond in the
  35. PD.  Do you want to see Amiga software stop here, where it is?  WordPerfect has
  36. already left, and they're *used* to piracy.  They weren't getting enough
  37. support.
