- I'm about to break the bank and order one of these things but before I
- do I really want to feel that I'm making the right choice, not so much
- for the money involved but the money->usefulness equation involved.
-
- I basically want it as a rendering device, something one might expect
- to use a Harlequin frame buffer or RAMbrandt card for (I actually
- tried ordering both of those items but couldn't seem to get a firm
- price on the Harlequin out of anyone and the RAMbrandt appears to have
- some real availability problems since the fire). I realize that both
- of the cards I just mentioned are a lot more expensive, so I'm not
- necessarily expecting the OpalVision to do EVERYTHING they do, but it
- would be a nice bonus if it provided more value for the money that
- either of them, naturally.
-
- One thing that also bothered me about the RAMbrandt and Harlequin both
- is that they involved me tossing out my flicker fixer card and going
- back to a non-interlaced workbench. UGH! Does the OpalVision handle
- this? This is one of the reasons I was having reason to look at the GVP
- product, recently.. When I'm not rendering, I do tend to want to actually
- get some programming work done on the machine and a flicker fixer is a
- very nice thing to have.. I'd hate to have to give it up.
-
- So, can anyone tell me a little about their experiences with OpalVision?
- Has anyone used it as an output device for Imagine and/or Vista Pro and
- liked it? (I realize that Vista Pro doesn't support it directly [shame]
- but does produce IFF24 images that could be used..)
-
- Many thanks..
