  11. Before I take my controller card in for checking I would like some opinions
  12.  
  13. During a reboot my 2nd HD ( Quantum) 120meg decided to die. All the data
  14. on it was trashed and the RDB trashed as well. After numerous attempts
  15. with DiskSalv and Quarterback Tools I gave up and reformated it.

  17. I am using 2.04. I have an A2000 with A2630 card with 4 meg of 32bit mem
  18. and GVPSeries II FAAASTROM 3.07 with 40meg Quantum on the card as well
  19. as 4 meg of 16bit mem.

  21. Well I have had trouble reboots where the second drive seemed to hang
  22. during the boot procedure but turning the computer off/on quickly seemed
  23. to get the boot sequence to finish OK. SYS: is on the 40 meg which never
  24. had or has a problem.

  26. Any way having reformating it I noticed the 120 meg was very slow and tested
  27. it with loading PAgestream 2.0 found it took 20 seconds to start the program
  28. where as on the 40 meg it loaded in six seconds.

  30. Deciding I must have formated it with the OFS I loaded FAAASTPREP and reformat
  31. ed it. I decided to try a lowlevel format knowing that Quantums usually wont
  32. do this. But the drive started clicking but the drive light was off
  33.  
  34. Upon reboot the drive could not be seen or identified with FAAAASTPREP i.e it
  35. couldnot get any info. Another reboot and info could be got but no format
  36. was possible with FAAAASTPREP.

  38. I took the 120 to my local Amiga shop ( hi Mark) and they formatted it OK
  39. and said there was no problem with it. My cable between the drives abd controller
  40. seems OK as well.

  42. Back home I still have the trouble rebooting without the OFF/ON ploy and when
  43. I tried to repartition the drive FAAASTPREP ( putting 2 in partition gadget
  44. ) says "this function can only be used on a vaild read/write unit.

  46. As well the head numbers now reads 1 when it used to read 3 but I can still
  47. use it.

  49. So be fore I get the controller checked ( no probs with the 40meg) any ideas
