- I have a Maxtor 213 SCSI low profile and a Quantum 120 LPS.
- I backed up the Maxtor and did a low level format cause I had some funky
- errors (my fault). After I formatted it and restored it, I went and did a
- test on it cause I noticed a considerable increase in performance. I found
- out the maxtor went from doing 900K/sec to 1600K/sec!! All because I did a
- different # cylinders, heads, blocks per track, and blocks per cylinder.
- I have a question 4 u. What is the maximized low level format config for a
- maxtor 213 and a quantum 120 lps? It definitely makes a difference. I
- forgot what it was, but here is my new maxtor config:
- cylinders = 3055
- heads = 1
- blocks per track = 136"/usr1/users/research/ree88132/.article" 30 lines, 1111 charactersbl
- ocks per cylinder = 136
- reselection = off
- What is reselection? where (what cylinder) should I park my heads?
- Thanks for the help. Maybe we can gather a collective list of all HD types
- for scsi, IDE, etc. and post it.
- PS. My Quantum gets 2.2 megs/sec, don't know how much better I can do than
- that. I have an A3000 25mhz and use the SCSI bus on the motherboard.
