  18. I agree, I commented to an Acorn representative at the BAU show,
  19. that I could buy a 386 (or even a 486) and get a free unix clone
  20. for less than I could buy RISCiX (including X).

  22. I dont know what the price of commercial Unix's are for PC's,
  23. but I suspect a reasonable 386 could be purchased with Unix
  24. for less than RISCiX.

  26. The other point is that if RISCiX was a LOT cheaper,
  27. and it was available for the A5000, they would have the
  28. cheapest Unix workstation going, and I know a lot
  29. of people who would be pleased with it.

  31. Of course one of the problems is the complete lack of
  32. compatibility with anything except Acorns SCSI card,
  33. thats why I believe they should give the tools for
  34. building the kernel with RISCiX (I dont think they
  35. do at the moment), and then 3rd parties would
  36. write drivers for their cards.

  38. I dont need all the snazy Motif/X package - as long
  39. as the device drivers are there, and gave a set
  40. of patches which could be given to the standard
  41. X distribution - then we could all compile it up ourselves.
