- Could it possible be the drive itself? Remember all the stiction
- problems that were mentioned with the Segate ST251-x because of
- overlubrication of the platters? Having the drive run for 4 years
- and then shutdown could have done it in.

- On a related sidenote, I've had a ST251-1 in my 3b1 for 3 years now
- with no problems. The system would run continiously for many months
- and might be shut down for a few weeks. Everything is fine. At
- one point the machine was on for a few days a week and then off.
- No problems. Am I one of the lucky ones? Not once, have I had a
- problem. Maybe just a batch of these drives were bad and the
- defect was non-extant on some? Does anyone have serial numbers
- of those with problems, or manufacture dates?
