  12. Our organization has decided (at long last) that we need to
  13. modernize our development environment, and I have been charged
  14. with putting together the master plan. 
  15.  
  16. The plan needs to include configuration management, backups,
  17. as well as development tools (debuggers, compilers, etc.),
  18. maintenance, system configuration, network operations, etc. 
  19.  
  20. We have a scattered collection of VAXen running VMS, Ultrix,
  21. and System V; PCs running MSDOS and OS/2; and Sparcstations
  22. running BSD.  We have one DEC VMS Alpha machine, and we're
  23. getting another with OSF/1. Most are tied together with
  24. various TCP/IP packages or DECNET.

  26. We don't have much experience using CASE tools or in object
  27. oriented methodology. 
  28.  
  29. If anyone has ideas about how to approach this, I would like
  30. to hear about them.  I realize the solutions will be very
  31. specific to our particular environment and politics, so what
  32. I'm looking for most are approaches, items to consider,
  33. checklists, etc., as well as things you have seen work well.

  35. If there have been articles previously posted to the network
  36. addressing this topic, I'd be interested in the reference.
