- This seems to be one of the most important questions on this
- newsgroup, and for some reason it is _so_ difficult to get an answer.
- There are a lot of people who want to try setting up some sort of a
- SLIP connection that they can use with their modems. I am one of them.
- After searching around the net for days I found out where I could get
- ka9q and it's documentation. I found binaries at one ftp site, source
- code at several others ( several different versions) and documentation
- at still another. Worse, the documentation didn't hardly cover what
- mose peopl are going to want to try to do, that is using SLIP. For
- example, you will find very little information about how to dial you
- modem and get the connection going, which for me was the trickiest
- part.
- l
- part I suppose my point is, now that I have ka9q up and running, I
- can say that it is fun to be on the internet with your own machine.
- IUt should not be the trial and tribulation that I had to go through
- to get it going. I think this group needs a FAQ, and it needs it bad !
- ! !
- I still want to find out how I can use slip for NCSA telnet,
- which really is a more polished program than ka9q. ( Not to offend
- anyone ) Getting it to work for Telnet is even harder. That is, it's
- hard if you have to discover how to do it yourself . . .

- sorry about the sloppiness of this post. ka9q only has dumb terminal
- emulation, and that does not make Vi very happy.
