  12. After installing KRB5-BETA2 version on my machine (SunOS 4.1.1) and 
  13. fixing some problems with kadmin, and kpasswd. I am trying to get
  14. the bsd rcommonds running, but to no avail. After performing the 
  15. following procedures:

  17. 1. add an entry "host/ottawa.dl.nec.com" to the kerberos database
  18.  
  19. 2. extract a srvtab file by using "xst ottawa.dl.nec.com host" in 
  20.    kdb5_edit and place it in /krb5/v5srvtab
  21.  
  22. 3. make the appropriate change in /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf files
  23.  
  24. 4. try "rlogin ottawa" and I got the following error messages:

  26. rlogin: kcmd to host ottawa.dl.nec.com failed - Server rejected authentication (during sendauth exchange)
  27. trying normal rlogin (/usr/ucb/rlogin)

  30. In the /usr/adm/messages log file, it tells the following:

  32. Nov 19 18:38:15 ottawa krlogind[24308]: Kerberos authentication failed from otta
  33. wa.dl.nec.com: Wrong principal in request
  34. Nov 19 18:38:15 ottawa krlogind[24308]: Error reading message

  36. I have followed some of the source code, and it looks like somehow after 
  37. encoding and decoding the application request, the principal and relavent
  38. keys from rlogin client don't match that of the krlogind server. 
  39.  
  40. I have no clue on why the K5 rlogin problems does this, Does anybody 
  41. run into this kind of problem before, and can any knowledgeable netter
  42. provide any info on why the above occur? (BTW, I have also tried to use 
  43. "host/ottawa" as principal, and "xst ottawa host" for srvtab).
