  13. My 1355 drive gave up last week. Since I had a spare one lying around, I
  14. decided to look into that one. However, I discovered the following
  15. problems:
  16. - the spare one works, but thinks it has only 3 heads instead of 8.
  17.   Is there any way to convince it that it has 8 heads? I tried it, but
  18.   could not get it to use its other heads.
  19. - In order to salvage the data I tried to swap the interface and motor
  20.   control boards of both drives. The old 1355 comes up, but thinks it
  21.   has 3 heads. So the three head info must be stored on the interface
  22.   board. Also it must be the interface board from my old drive that is
  23.   bad, since otherwise it would not come up with the spare boards.
  24.   Does anyone know if it is possible to repair the original board.
  25.   The symptoms of the failing drive are: when the drive is powered the
  26.   led turns on. If the drive comes to speed the led used to go out, but
  27.   now doesn't any more. The led just stays on. No blinking of error
  28.   codes. The drive also does not respond on commands.

  30. Anyone any suggestions? Or probably schematics??
