- Hi,
-
- My 1355 drive gave up last week. Since I had a spare one lying around, I
- decided to look into that one. However, I discovered the following
- problems:
- - the spare one works, but thinks it has only 3 heads instead of 8.
- Is there any way to convince it that it has 8 heads? I tried it, but
- could not get it to use its other heads.
- - In order to salvage the data I tried to swap the interface and motor
- control boards of both drives. The old 1355 comes up, but thinks it
- has 3 heads. So the three head info must be stored on the interface
- board. Also it must be the interface board from my old drive that is
- bad, since otherwise it would not come up with the spare boards.
- Does anyone know if it is possible to repair the original board.
- The symptoms of the failing drive are: when the drive is powered the
- led turns on. If the drive comes to speed the led used to go out, but
- now doesn't any more. The led just stays on. No blinking of error
- codes. The drive also does not respond on commands.
-
- Anyone any suggestions? Or probably schematics??
-
- PS: Now I know why I always made backups :-)
