- Subject: Data corruption on Novell Netware 2.15 network
- Lines: 47
-
- Our current network is as follows:
-
- - 486SX25 workstations with 8Mb RAM, 80Mb IDE HD, SMC Elite 16 Combo
- 10baseT card set to IRQ=10, RAM=CC000, PORT=300, running OS/2 2.0 and
- NetWare requestor for OS/2.
-
- - 386DX16 file server (set to 8MHz) with 4Mb RAM, 180mb SCSI HD,
- Western Digital EtherCard PLUS TP set to IRQ=3, RAM=D0000, PORT=280,
- attached to AUI-to-TP transciever via cards AUI port--card jumpers
- set for AUI, running SFT Netware 2.15 TTS revision A.
-
- - 486DX33 test file server with 16Mb RAM, 2160Mb SCSI HD array, SMC Elite 16
- Combo 10baseT card set to IRQ=10, RAM=cc000, port=300, running
- NetWare 3.11.
-
- - Synoptics 10BASET (not Lattisnet) 16-port concentrator (2800A)
-
- PROBLEM:
-
- Data corruption appears to occur during transmissions to and from
- the 2.15 file server, but there is no indication of error other than
- visual evidence of corruption.
-
- In some cases there are no apparent problems, but frequently the
- the corruption manifests itself as garbled characters in certain
- transmissions, appended to the end of text files, or as unusable
- executable files.
-
- CAPTURE.EXE would not work on the 2.15 server, so I compared it
- to the version on the 3.11 server (having both been installed
- via NETWARE REQUESTOR INSTALL they should be identical). The files
- differed consistently at offset x'7FFE' (correct file contained
- x'5E', corrupted file contained x'C0'. I say consistently because
- I copied the file from the 3.11 server directly to the 2.15 server
- and the error persisted. I also tried re-installing the utilities
- on the 2.15 server using NW REQUESTOR INSTALL.
-
- MAP gives bizarre results. For example, one map statement maps
- to TDC1SYS:PUBLICOS2, but displays as TDC1SYS:PUBLICOSA!!!
-
- This corruption manifests itself any time data is transferred to the
- 2.15 file server, and I'm concerned that we may suffer some serious
- damage if we can't correct the problem.
-
- ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED--PLEASE REPLY TO ANDY@MAINE.EDU DIRECTLY!
