-
- trn works with Unix-style /news/spool filesystems; SNews stores
- news in it's own, incompatible format (each group in one large file.)
- Neither works over nntp at present, but I see no inherent reason why
- trn shouldn't work if you can NFS-mount a /news/spool partition from
- some other machine (subject to the usual file-locking concerns
- with NFS.)
-
- IBM seems to be developing a PM-based rn, but according to their
- comments on the net, it will *only* support reading/posting via nntp,
- (i.e. it won't work with locally-stored flat files.) This seems to
- be a particularly short-sighted attitude, perhaps driven by IBM
- marketing concerns that the "politically correct" way to read your
- news is via an nntp server (an RS/6000 maybe?).
-
- I would suggest that those who would like a PM-based rn to support
- flat files make their feelings known.
