  18. The COM bps limit is still the same: 57,600 bps.  (DMA hardware,
  19. available on many IBM machines, may boost that figure.)  That is the
  20. theoretical (or, more precisely, implemented) maximum.  The practical
  21. maximum depends on system load, system capabilities, type of
  22. handshaking enabled, type of software in use, and type of
  23. communications device/cable.
