- Well, since everyone else is having SVGA problems, I thought I needed to
- have SVGA problems too, so I ran SVGA ON. This is my story. I know there
- are dozens other just like it >:-) I was prompted to this by the 800x600x16
- driver available for Paradise/WD boards. My problems are not using this
- driver, they are using the _standard_ vanilla drivers.
-
-
-
- I'm running the service pack. I never tried this stuff before I got it.
-
- I have a cheapo SVGA running the Western Digital PVGA1B chipset.
-
- I run SVGA ON in a DOS window.
- Reboot. All looks good in 640x480x16.
- Start up DOS full screen. No problem.
- (VIDEO_ROM_EMULATION OFF,
- HW_ROM_TO_RAM ON,
- DOS_RMSIZE 624 as per FAQ suggestion)
- Ctrl-Esc to WP shell. No problem.
- Bring back DOS full screen. Problems begin:
-
- MODE CO80,43
- gives the error
- "The MODE parameters DISPLAY CO80 or ROWS 43 is not correct."
-
- MODE CO80,50
- gives
- "The MODE parameters DISPLAY CO80 or ROWS 50 is not correct."
-
- MODE CO80,25 (the existing video mode at the time)
- causes flicker, black screen, hang requiring Big Red Button.
-
- The MODE commands _will_ work when the DOS window is first opened. It is only
- if I switch to WPS then back to the DOS window that problems occur.
-
- One note: My SVGADATA.PMI contains descriptions of video modes
- that my board cannot possibly support because it doesn't have enough memory.
- At first I thought this was because SVGA assumed 512K while I only had 256K.
- I upgraded my board to 512K, and the same problems occur. There are still
- video modes that I cannot support, but there are changes to the SVGADATA.PMI
- file which presumably reflect the memory upgrade. If anyone is interested I
- can mail both SVGADATA.PMI's (256K and 512K).
-
- Any thoughts, comments, solutions, would be appreciated.
