  10. I have the GNUinfo package for OS/2.  I've run MAKEINFO to create a ?.info
  11. file and have read the Info info file (without benefit of info, naturally)
  12. trying to figure out how to create the "dir" file.  The topics on "dir" in
  13. info info all assume that you already have a "dir" file and just want to add
  14. a new info database.  I've tried editing a new file to look like the example
  15. lines in info info and I've named the file various things like "dir",
  16. "dir.info", "info.dir", etc.  I've tried putting the file in different places
  17. and overriding file locations with the INFOPATH environment variable.  All to
  18. no avail.  Every time I start INFO, I get a message that entry "Top" was not
  19. found in "dir" followed by another message that "dir" wasn't found in the path
  20. defaulted or specified by INFOPATH.

  22. Having given this a fair amount of effort, I'm forced to ask:  what am I
  23. missing?  How do I get the "dir" file?  What is the proper name for the "dir"
  24. file?
