- First off, thanx to all those who responded to my question either here
- or via e-mail. Norton's SpeedDisk works great after I boot DOS.
-
- As for the EA DATA. SF file... mine was chopped up into literally 30+
- pieces. I suppose this didn't make much of a difference, but I hate
- having files fragmented that much. What I did was rename "EA DATA. SF"
- to EADATA.SF, copy it to my RAM disk, delete it from C:, THEN run
- SpeedDisk. After that was done, I copied EADATA.SF back to C: and renamed
- it EA DATA. SF. Note that DOS is incapable of copying files with spaces
- (or other weird characters) in their name, even with COPY EA?DATA.?SF or
- COPY EA*.*; I had to rename it. Note also that you cannot use the DOS
- RENAME command to change the name back to EA DATA. SF. I had to use
- Norton's Disk Editor (Norton 6.01) and edit the name that way.
-
- OS/2 seems not to have cared that I did this. I didn't try it with
- files like the OS/2 kernal and the loader (I can't remember the
- exact names) which are also fragmented on my disk, because I didn't
- know if OS/2 required these files to be in exactly the same place it
- put them at install time (DOS does a similar thing with its system
- files).
-
- Thanx again everyone.
