- I am in the market for a good word processor. Or rather, my parents are,
- since they plan to get my one for Christmas.
-
- NOTE: I don't want any heated 'XX vs YY' crap regarding my post, eh?
-
- Some background:
-
- I own a 386/33 with 8megs RAM, running OS/2 2.0
- I am in Mechanical Engineering, and often need to
- do technical reports, involving equations
- and imported drawings.
- I now use Write for Windows to word-process, and build complex
- equations using Paintbrush for Windows, and pasting them
- into Write documents.
-
- I am looking at Ami Pro 3.0 for Windows - often cited as THE best word processor
- for Windows, having lotsa features, including a 4-level Undo, grammar checker,
- and Note: GOOD equation editor, and WYSIWYG. Also, I am considering getting
- the DeScribe 4.0 word processor - a native OS/2 32bit app. It has WYSIWYG,
- unlimited Undo, BUT, no equation editor.
-
- Now,
- can some of you suggest which you think would be best to get? I hear Lotus
- will not release Ami Pro for OS/2 until the Q1,'93...(or later?), and
- want to chuck Write and Paintbrush, if I can.
-
- Has anyone used both? Note that I psot this to (or at least I *think* I am
- cross-posting) to the OS/2 and Windows Apps newsgroups.
-
- Both seem to retail for $500. I have no other WP to get a 'competitive
- upgrade'...has anyone seen cheaper prices on these WPs? The price may be
- a deciding factor.
-
- If I decided to get DeScribe, would I be able to 'paste' in drawings and
- equations from Paintbrush as I did with Write?
-
- I know of the helpfile problem in Ami Pro3.0 under OS/2, and have a fix for it, to let you know...
-
- What are the comparable features? Note that I don't give a hoot about
- mail merges and obscure formatting things.
-
- Gosh, thanks a lot - on one hand, it seems that Ami Pro 3.0 would edge out
- DeScribe wrt features, but DeScribe wouldn't be as slow as Ami Pro 3.0 (under
- OS/2, that is) since DeScribe is native and 32bit.
-
- ReThanks - emails would be best - I don't always have the time to read comp.os.o
- s2.apps, much less the Windows apps group.
