- Hello,
- I have not the Speedstar 24x, but the Stealth 1 meg
- hi-color card. This card is suppossedly Diamond's top card,
- but I hope they do better. I am unable to get the card to
- perform except as the 512kb version. They have replaced my
- card and video drivers twice. Their tech support is NOT.
- Bugs appear to exist in almost every video driver they have
- for their card (except the 640x480x16 mode: big deal).
- One final point that one should keep in mind before
- purchasing any card from Diamond: they don't work with most
- monitors. They come with a SMODE program which will
- configure the card to some specific monitors: NEC 2, 3, 4,
- and 5 series, Crystal Scan, and a couple others. Samsung is
- NOT supported and there are some monitors which won't even
- work in simple VGA mode. This surprises me since the
- Samsung 3 is currently one of the most popular monitors.
- There is a custom setting, but it hangs the computer. So
- unless you either own a supported monitor, or one whose
- synch and frequency settings match a supported monitor
- EXACTLY, you are taking a chance.
- My friend has the 24x with a NEC 3 series without a
- problem, but is much less than impressed. His SMODE program
- is identical to mine. No improvements. No 800 tech support
- number.
- In retrospect, I'd suggest either an Ultra or an Orchid.
- Try to get something with the Sierra chip in it.
