  22. Your startup problems sound familiar to me.  I have a 486 EISA machine
  23. with an Adaptec 1740.  I couldn't get Windows 3.1 to work in enhanced
  24. mode without enabling Windows double buffering until I got Adaptec's
  25. latest fixed version of aspi4dos.sys.  Adaptec's upgrade utility made
  26. it for me, and its directory entry looks like:

  30. It is version 3.0a, and you can get the upgrade through a clever method
  31. Adaptec uses to protect their licenses.  There is an executible program
  32. freely available from Adaptec which checks for its various software
  33. packages and decripts and applies upgrades for those it finds.  I got
  34. the program from Adaptec's bulletin board system, but considering your
  35. internet address, you may want to try your local Adaptec dealer, or some
  36. anonymous FTP site.

  38. With the new driver and the following fragment in my config.sys, all is
  39. now well for me.
