  19. There is a limit on the number of files in the root directory
  20. (subdirectories are a special class of file).  There is no restriction on
  21. the number of files (including subdirectories) in a subdirectory. 
  22. However, there _is_ a limit to the total length of a path name, so be
  23. careful when you nest subdirectories.
