- OOPS, I did a major boefoo. Someone installed XLOCK ver 3.? a long time
- ago on a PC I use at school. XLOCK is a security system for PC. I think it
- writes over the .sys files so the computer must always talk to the Hard Drive
- Throught It. Anyway the other day I was cleaning up the hard drive. I
- deleted a file called XLOCKDAT.BIO. This apparently is an IO file used at
- boot up.
-
- After deleting this file, I shut of my computer. On my next bootup I started
- getting an Xlock error. Step 2 using Norton Utilities I went onto absolute
- sector and undeleted this file. This got me back on to hard drive for the
- day. I then set the attrib of this file to sys, hid, and read only. I thought
- I had fixed the problem.
-
- Day 3 I log in and cannot access the C drive. I can boot to a floppy but
- cannot access the C drive. I cannot format the drive, Norton Disk Doctor
- cannot locate any partitions, etc. I can only access using norton absolute
- sector. It tells me I can access a physical hard drive, but there is no
- logical hard drive. I think I messed up the Fat for xlockdat.bio.
-
- I tried to call Xlock in Georgia. Their Number is disconnected and there is
- no listing for them. There is suppose to be an emergency boot disk for XLOCK,
- but no one Knows where it is.
-
- How can I either recover the disk or reformat the disk?
-
- (Oh yeah, Im not a novice, but Im also not an expert on PCs, so if solution
- is complex tell me where to find reference info or help me by putting solution
- in dumb-user language)
-
- Thanks
- JJ
