- Hi all,
-
- I just bought a WesternDigital hard drive, supposed to format to 203Mg,
- don't remember the exact drive model.
-
- My question is " Has anyone ever had a case where your hard drive says
- it is write-protectd? "
-
- I installed the drive the other day.
- Ran fdisk and dos format on it.
- Started loading software, but had to leave the machine for a while. I shut it
- off, left, and when I returned, tried to resume loading my software onto
- the disk.
- Problem was that the disk was write-protectd.
- I tried to re-format the disk but could not. It would verify the disk but
- when it tried to write the system files to the disk it would say the disk
- was write-protected.
- I tried fdisk on it again. I could remove the partitions, but when exiting
- fdisk the program would hang while trying to access the disk, presumeable
- it was trying to erase the information about the partitions from the disk
- and could not access it. The drive light would come on for quite some time
- flash off for a second and then come on again. That is when I decided it
- had hung...
-
- When I try to copy, use dos more, delete, etc. on the drive I get the
- standard error message you would get if you tried any of these commands
- on a write-protectd floppy. ( except, that is for the copy; I can't
- even copy from the hard disk to floppy.)
-
- Any Ideas ???
-
- Thanks in Advance.
