- Summary: Just what *is* the console, anyway?
-
- I've been having problems with JOE (now version 1.0.6) on my Linux-box, and
- have tracked them down /etc/termcap and $TERM. Evidently the /etc/termcap
- entry for "l1|con80x25|console|unknown" is *wrong* somehow... and I can't
- figure out where $TERM gets set to "con80x25" in the first place. It's not
- in /etc/rc, /etc/rc.local, nor even .bash_profile nor .bashrc (though some
- of them "export" the TERM variable).
-
- When I set TERM=vt100, all goes well with JOE... but am I losing capability?
- Just what *is* the Linux console? Where can I get a *working* /etc/termcap?
- (Right now, I've got the one from H.J.'s [root|base|gcc|lib]disk distribution.)
-
- Boiling it down in summary:
-
- 1.) Where does bash get the "con80x25" value for TERM from?
-
- 2.) Does the /etc/termcap entry for "con80x25" faithfully define
- the Linux console? If so, why won't JOE work with it?
-
- 3.) [optional] What's the best way to make this terminal thing mesh?
