- Yes.
-
- As far as spreadsheets go, you've got GNU's "oleo", SuperCalc ("sc"), or
- "xspread" (for X-Windows). For word processors, things get sticky...
-
- There are a number of types of applications which net.geeks^H^H^H^H^Hpeople
- tend to *call* "word processors":
-
- 1.) Full-screen line-editors (like "vi").
- 2.) Text processors
- A.) text-to-text ("nroff", "groff", "cawf", "awf", ...)
- B.) text-to-typeset ("troff", "TeX", "LaTeX", "groff"?)
- 3.) Emacs, which is it's own sort of creature.
- (There are many thick books which try to explain what emacs is.)
-
- None of these is what Joe D. User (the "D." is for "DOS") is looking for
- when he says "word processor". He's looking for WordStar, WordPerfect,
- PCWrite, etc. The only application which I've found to fit this bill is
- JOE (currently out as release 1.0.5) which compiles out-of-the-box under
- Linux (though you may have to update your /etc/termcap if it's lame).
