- I seem to have lost the email address of the individual who wrote tcpip
- support for linux, so hopefully some of you here will be able to answer
- these question. I thank you for any info you can provide.
-
- 1) when i telnet into my 486 linux box running 0.98.1 and then logout,
- some traces of the session are left. They can be seen with 'w' and
- 'finger'. For example,
-
- # w
- 8:37pm up 1:37, 9 users, load average: 0.07, 0.11, 0.09
- User tty login@ idle JCPU PCPU what
- LOGIN tty2 6:59pm 1:37 (getty)
- LOGIN tty4 6:59pm 1:37 (getty)
- LOGIN tty3 6:59pm 1:37 (getty)
- root tty1 7:09pm 1:26 7:04 (startx)
- root ttyp0 7:49pm 1:00 1 telnet freenet-b
- root ttyp1 7:11pm 7 w
- l■ ┐P ttyp0 1Jan70 59
- mlewis ttyp2 8:05pm 31

- The entries for mlewis are phantoms. That person is not really
- logged in.

- 2) I discovered an interesting quirk with the ftp in
- b4/tcpip.taz in the SLS package. FTPing to sunsite.unc.edu,
- i entered my email address for password as normal. However, after
- after that, any 'ls' or 'dir' resulted in
- ftp: bind: I/O error
- Luckily, I discovered that if you suppress the helpful messages
- by inserting a - in front of your email address the password,
- 'ls' and 'dir' work fine. Any ideas as to why this is???
-
- 3) attempting to do a shell command under ftp, such as
- '!ls', works but I always get two errors, each saying
- a:command not found
-
- 4) lastly, i grabbed all the stuff out of the system/Network
- directory on sunsite. I was able to recompile finger, etc. but
- talk and talkd would not make due to the absence of a library
- called libinet.a. What is this library wand where might i
- obtain it???
-
-
- Again, i thank all of you for the wonderful work. i hope i can
- repay you in some manner someday. :)
