- this might interest a few of you. In the tcpip suites (i.e.
- tcpip-0.8[.1].tar.Z or b4/tcpip.taz under SLS) there is a shell
- script called rc.net in /usr/etc/inet
- which is called by rc.local during boot up.
- Make sure that you set the execute bit for this shell script is set.
- Otherwise, the daemons will not be executed. You could also add
- a 'sh' in front of rc.net in rc.local. I hope this helps someone
- out. I spent many a frustrated hour last night getting things up
- and running. But it was worth it. As I write this, I am displaying
- Mathemtica graphics under X Windows that I calculated on a remote
- machine. The remote client support is AWESOME. Thanks to everyone.
- Linus. HJ. all the networking people. You are truly my heros.
-
- BTW, I bought a used SMC Elite 16 for $79. I gather this was an
- excellent buy. If you're interested in where I got it, email me and
- I'll tell you a not-so-secret secret.
