- Rather than repartitioning my harddrive and losing any dos apps, I
- decided to keep my partitions as is. I've installed the SLS package
- except for tex and X. In order to make more space, I moved /usr to a
- different partition, and symlinked to it. I've had no problems so far,
- except for a permissions problem , which I fixed by chmod uo+rx.
- However, I decided to play the ascii tetris as a normal user for the
- first time, and I get an error when trying to write scores out. Is
- this related to moving /usr? (I fixed all problems such as ownership
- of users directories, bug in adduser of switching uid and gid in
- /etc/passwd.)
-
- Also, to install X, I'm going to need to move some things to another
- partition. Is there anything wrong with that, or some guidline to
- follow? (e.g. / on hda8, /usr on hda9, /usr/bin on hda7.) I know that
- this may not be optimal, but right now, all I want to do is play with
- linux to decide if I want it, then I'll start fresh if I do.
-
- Finally, how do I use my modem? I have no problems writing software to
- do this, but (a) I don't want to duplicate effort and (b) I need some
- pointers to start.
-
- Thanks a lot.
