  14. I've dedicated this weekend to getting my linux box up on
  15. the ethernet. unfortunately, I 've run into the same probelms
  16. as everyone else. Here is what I did.
  17.  
  18. 1) installed SMC Elite 16 and changed parameters using software
  19. 2) recompiled tcpip with proper values in Space.c in 
  20.    0.98.1 kernel.
  21. 3) got tcpip-0.8 suite and put stuff in /usr/bin and
  22.    /usr/etc/inet
  23.   NOTE: why did EVERYONE erase the tcpip suites on the various
  24.         anon ftp sites?????
  25. 4) ran install.net 
  26.    made up a router cause I don't know the one for this school.
  27. 5) all telnet and ftp attempts fail due to 'host unreachable'
  28.    or name server lookup, even the loopback.

  30. Would someone please take time out to assist me before I lose my
  31. mind? i'd like to get this finished before Thankgiving.

  33. BTW, I did read the new FAQ. Some suggestions: it never mentioned
  34.    where to get ftp,telnet, etc. (aka the tcpip-0.8.tar.Z suite).
  35.    in fact, it never even said you need it.      
  36.    2nd, the part about named is very confusing. i will point out
  37.    problems if the author is interested.
